“Let us be grateful to people who make us happy,
they are the charming gardeners who make
our souls blossom.”
— Marcel Proust
How often do you feel grateful?
At the suggestion of my wife, Marsha, I recently began keeping a gratitude journal. Each night I write 5 things that I’m grateful for. It’s amazing what I’ve discovered. At first it’s the obvious things such as having a house, my wife, my puppy…
Then on a cold night I’m grateful for my warn cozy bed and the opportunity to snuggle with them.
Then I began to write things that are so obvious that they only become visible when I see something that calls my attention to them. For example, when I see someone that is homeless pushing a cart with all their belongings in it I’m grateful for what I have.
When I see those who have physical or mental limitations I’m grateful for being as capable as I can be.
Could it be, that the ones who are less able, less mobile, and less fluent are the ones who can make us happy when we feel grateful and thankful for what we have and perhaps what we don’t have.
To expand your happiness, do this Action Step every day.
When you see a homeless person thank them silently for the opportunities you’ve been given.
How does that feel?
